In accordance with the following BAL Technical & Competition Regulations:
Regulation 2.2 Any competition purporting to be a ‘national’ competition will be conducted under these regulations, meet the requirements and standards for Australian Boxing Championships and National Selection Competitions and be held under the direction and supervision of the BAL Board.
Regulation 4.1 Age categories for Member Association championships and or selection competitions, which apply to both female and male boxers and are subject to any legislative or government policy restrictions, shall be by the year of birth in accordance with Appendix 6 and be as follows:
4.1.5 Youth: for a boxer aged 17or 18 years;
4.1.6 Elite: for a boxer aged 19 to 40 years inclusive; and
Appendix 5.1 The Australian Boxing Championships and National Selection Competitions shall be conducted under the direction and supervision of the Board of Boxing Australia Limited (BAL) in accordance with these regulations.
Youth boxers will not be eligible to enter the proposed December Olympic selection event.
Overnight you may have seen that the months of the Olympic Qualification Events were released, and Asia/Oceania is slated for China in January. The exact dates were not released, which means that BAL and MAs will need to be flexible in how we approach the December Selection Event; an early/mid January Asia/Oceania Event will mean we may need to look at moving the December Selection Event forward. Please bear with us until we know the exact dates and the implication this will have on our current plans.
We are exploring the possibility of holding a selection event next year after the Asia/Oceania Qualifier, and before the World Qualifier in May, which boxers who are in their second-year Youths in 2019 would be eligible for as first-year Elites.
