Change in BQ calendar
Published Sun 30 Aug 2020
Due to the cancellations of the National Under 19's and Elite titles the BQ calendar has changed slightly.
Every year the calendar is scheduled to maximise the boxers ability to participate in tournaments to gain the experience to compete in the bigger pathway events, like the states, nationals, interstate events etc and so on. Which in turn leads to possible selection in the national team increasing athletes opportunities to compete overseas and on the world stage.
This year the calendar has been heavily effected by COVID 19 and the restrictions placed on our sport. The health and safety of our athletes and members is our priority and will always remain to be.
In light of the nationals being cancelled, there are no pathway events in 2020 however as a committee we think it is vital that athletes have something meaningful to set as a goal so we have decided to push forward with our state titles. While winning the state titles won't get the champion on to the nationals it will hold them in the lead position going into 2021 for any events that require a selection process.
The 2020 state titles will be held in November at a venue yet to be confirmed.
While we have put a plan in place we are still very much driven by the current COVID 19 situation and as we all know this situation is changing on a daily basis. We are hoping that this all settles down and we don't have that doubt hanging over our heads, however we will continue to adhere and monitor all advice and recommendations we are given from Qld health and the authorities. All information will be distributed ASAP after we receive it.
Once again athletes and members health and safety is our priority and all decisions are made accordingly.
