JOE GOODALL HEADING FOR 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Queenslander Super Heavyweight Joe Goodall is now a hot favourite to win Gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after winning a Bronze Medal at the just concluded AIBA World Boxing Championships in Hamburg, Germany.
At the World Championships the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Ambassador defeated the Ukrainian and Russian Champions and, in a split points decision, only lowered his colours in the semi-final to the eventual Gold Medallist from Azerbaijan.
His medal win is Australia’s first at an amateur boxing Elite Men’s World Championships since 1991.
Joe, from the Stretton Boxing Club and coached by Glenn Rushton, was coached at the Championships by Boxing Australia Head Coach Kevin Smith who was also in his corner at the 2014 Commonwealth Games when Joe won the Silver Medal in the Super Heavyweight division.
In recognition of his achievement Joe has been awarded $10,000 by Boxing Australia to help him prepare for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
