Under 19 Australian Championships

Congratulations to all involved on a hugely successful event.

To our athletes, you guys have done yourselves, your families, your coaches and your state extremely proud! The way you have conducted yourselves inside and outside of the ring has been impeccable. You all competed with courage and tenacity and it was a pleasure for everyone to witness. Win or lose you all maintained the highest level of sportsmanship and showed great maturity. Your support for one another and your chanting in the crowd was the best I have witnessed for a long time.

We had 47 athletes compete at these trials over 4 days. The final tally for Queensland was 20 Gold Medals and 11 Silver Medals. Queensland also won the shield for the most wins in the Under 15 category, the Junior Category and Queensland also won the shield for the most wins in the Female Youth category. A fantastic result for Boxing Queensland!!

To our State Coaches - I would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm and professionalism in the way you have helped guide these kids through the biggest sporting week of their career. It is your mentoring and support at these final stages before tey enter the ring that makes the world of difference. You have all played your part in the making fof a great team.

To our Volunteers - These events do not run smoothly by accident. They run smoothly due to your tireless efforts and many hours of hard work. Put simply, we cannot run a tournament like this without you all. To Paul Thompson and his crew, I cannot thank you enough on the behalf of Boxing Queensland for making these titles a success.

I would also like to thank all the families and friends that came to support these kids. I know your support means the world to them. Thank you to the R&J that travelled from all over Australia to officiate. A big thank you to our interstate teams for their attendance and to Boxing Australia for their continued support of Boxing Queensland.

I believe that Boxing Queensland is in an extremely strong growth and development stage at the moment. These results are proof of this as these kids are our future. Boxing Queensland have in place some fantastic development opportunities coming up in the near future. These development opportunities will cover all our age categories (Junior, Youth and Elite) I will keep you posted as these opportunities come to hand.

Definitely exciting times ahead for Boxing Queensland.
